The Awen Collective stand @ Basque Industry 4.0 event 2019

Event: Basque Industry 4.0 event 2019
When: 20th & 21st November 2019
Location: Bilbao Exhibition Centre, Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain, Europe

We were invited by the Basque Cybersecurity Centre to exhibit at the Basque Industry 4.0 event in Bilbao on the 20-21 November 2019. The invitation was due to growing relationships between the Basque Government and the Welsh Government, and in particular as an action arising from the Memorandum of Understanding between the CyberWales ecosystem and the Basque Cybersecurity ecosystem (both part of GlobalEPIC).

The Basque Country, and the wider Northern Spanish/Iberian region, has historically had a significant industrial presence and has a strong appetite for progress in those industrial sectors leading to Industry 4.0 and beyond. The Basque Cybersecurity ecosystem is also growing and improving, and naturally has a strong industrial perspective.

This was made very clear at the Basque Industry 4.0 event, which had industrial hardware & software and industrial cybersecurity in equal sized zones, with a third zone dedicated to a mixture of start-ups in the area.

Flying the flag for Awen and for CyberWales was Daniel. He was supported by Ruth Stockley from the Welsh Government's European International Trade and Investment Team. Also in attendance was Kerry Beynon from RDP Law, and also representing CyberWales.

It was an enjoyable event where we made new contacts, advertised our solutions, learnt new things about the Industry 4.0 & Cybersecurity sectors in the Basque Country, and promoted Wales as a great place to do business.

One word of warning for those thinking about attending or exhibiting at the event next year is that while this is an international event, and many people do speak English, not all do. Some of the event was conducted in Spanish, some in the Basque language, and some in English. Also, not everyone spoke English. Thankfully, Daniel has been brushing up on his Spanish language prior to the event!

A big thank you to the Basque Cybersecurity Centre and the SPRI for giving us this opportunity and for hosting us.

We will be doing business in Spain, and are putting some effort in now so that we can fully support Spanish advanced manufacturing and critical infrastructure in the near future. Watch this space!
